VCN – With the proactive and careful preparation for contents, the reception, logistics and propaganda, Customs events in APEC 2017 were very successful and highly appreciated by the member economies, the World Customs Organization, the National APEC Secretariat and the International APEC Secretariat.
This was the assessment made at the meeting hosted by the Deputy Director General of Customs Ngoc Anh, Head of the Steering Board and chairman of SCCP APEC 2017, on 21st December 2017.
According to Mr. Duong Van Tam, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department under General Department of Customs, to identify the priorities of SCCP APEC 2017, the Department has coordinated with units and subordinate units of the General Department to successfully organize 2 workshops in Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi. The workshops realized the prioritized contents which were providing and disseminating information related to events and roles of SCCP in APEC 2017 to local Customs officers and the business community.
The General Department of Customs also presided over the first SCCP meeting on the sidelines of SOM1 in Nha Trang; the second SCCP meeting on the sidelines of SOM3 in Ho Chi Minh city and the conference on trade facilitation on the sidelines of SOM3 in Ho Chi Minh City andCustoms – 2017 APEC businesses dialogue on the sidelines of SOM3.
Cooperating with the US Customs as a co-host to organize a workshop on Single Window in Ho Chi Minh City on the sidelines of SOM 3; coordinating with the General Department of Forestry (MARD) in the preparation for SCCP-related contents at the Joint Workshop of Experts Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade and SCCP on the sidelines of SOM3,joining the CTI conference on the sidelines of SOM 1 and SOM 3,joining other conferences on the sidelines of SOM1 and SOM, Dialogue on Chemistry, Dialogue on Rules of Origin, APEC Supply Chain Connectivity Meeting, Intellectual Property Workshop and Global Data Standards for Supply Chain Connectivity Workshop (GDS).
In addition, the General Department of Customs has cooperated with the National APEC Secretariat in welcoming delegates, facilitating Customs procedures at the airport and arranging the reception and tour visits, thereby, contributing to the general successand marking Vietnam’s milestones in other SOM3 APEC 2017 events.
With proactive and careful preparation, the Customs events in APEC 2017 have received high appreciation from the delegates of the member economies, the World Customs Organization, the National APEC Secretariat and International APEC Secretariat.
Deputy Director General Vu Ngoc Anh said that through SCCP APEC 2017, Vietnam Customs had expressed its role of connection in the SCCP, contributing to enhance the role and position of Vietnam Customs in the SCCP APEC multilateral forum. At the same time, this was also an opportunity for Vietnam Customs to promote bilateral cooperation with the Customs authorities of member economies in the region.
In the coming future, the General Department of Customs will continue to carry out the projects and contents that the Vietnamese Customs has been implementing in the SCCP APEC 2017 and actively participate in activities hosted by the SCCP members. Also, the General Department of Customs willbe more active in reviewing and studying the contents that the Vietnamese Customs has not yet participated in the SCCP APEC 2017, to consider the possibility of effective participation, bringing practical benefits for Vietnam Customs at the SCCP APEC forum.
